You Are Dead to Me

A Story of Betrayal, Mercy, and the God Who Never Walks Away

How does a relationship reach the point where your existence becomes nonexistent to someone? Where the emotional connection that once felt alive now burns to ashes? How does someone manage to erase memories of you, making them null and void?

Two women, in two different places, felt this kind of pain — the kind that makes forgiveness feel impossible.

Maryann opened a letter that changed her life forever: HIV positive. Her husband had committed adultery — again. You would think the betrayal ended when he fathered a child with another woman. But sin rarely stops where you think it should. Maryann whispered through tears, “You Are Dead to Me.”

Susan faced a different kind of heartbreak. Her own daughter stole her identity, reducing her credit score from 815 to 513. She drained her mother’s savings — $10,532 gone in no time. Then, in a drug‑fueled rage, she slapped her mother and spat in her face. Her addiction spiraled so far out of control that the daughter she once knew no longer existed. Susan cried out, “You Are Dead to Me.”

What happens to the human heart and mind when the people we love betray us and cause pain in the earthly realm?

Now let’s shift to the Spiritual Realm.

  • Humanity grieves God daily through sin, selfishness, pride, and rebellion.

  • We repeatedly betray His love, choosing our desires over His holiness.

  • Our actions reveal how far the human heart drifts when it turns away from Him.

And yet — thank God, He never wrote us off.

Romans 5:8 says, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Our Heavenly Father focused on salvation — wrapped in grace.

Jesus said, “Pick up your cross daily.” But don’t you understand — He picked up His cross first?

The human race continues to ignore Holy Scripture, demonstrating that humanity cannot live a righteous life without a loving Savior.

Christ understood 2000 years later in the first century what we would become in the 21st century — a generation that seeks self-gratification and love, free will.

We confess with our mouths that we love Jesus but avoid pursuing holiness. We speak of righteousness but refuse to live it.

 ·       What about the Ten Commandments? Exodus 20:1–17

·       What about the works of the flesh? Galatians 5:19–21

·       What happens inside a person that makes them turn away from God?

·       Why does the scale tilt so heavily toward sin?

·       The human race is undeserving of His unconditional love.

·       Christ paid the price for our sin — a debt we could never afford.

·       Salvation is free, and countless people run from it.

Mercy and Grace

Ephesians 2:4–5 (NIV) But because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions — it is by grace you have been saved.

John 3:16 (NIV) For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Again — thank God He never said, “You Are Dead to Me.”
