I Just Got a Glimpse

The Savior We Glanced At but Never Truly Saw.

Loretta and Rachel had been best friends since they were five years old. Now twenty‑one, nothing could separate them. Their bond was built on absolute trust — the kind of confidence that comes from knowing the person beside you will always stand with you. If you fought one, you fought both.

Back in fifth grade, a girl shoved Rachel to the ground, thinking she was an easy target. What the girl didn’t know was that Rachel never ran from confrontation — she never fought alone. Loretta had been kept after class that day, but the moment she walked out and saw what was happening, she jumped straight into the middle of it. The two of them took on Theresa West and her friends, and the whole group ended up in the principal’s office.

A similar incident happened again in eighth grade with Matthew White. He was humiliated when two girls had the upper hand, and once again, Loretta and Rachel found themselves sitting in the principal’s office. By then, everyone in Kingdom County knew their reputation: mess with one, deal with both.

Fast‑forward to the last semester of their senior year in college. They had just finished their final exams and were waiting for graduation. Both had secured six‑month internships at a major law firm. Plus, they had already been accepted into law school. Excited for the future, they signed a lease on a townhouse four hours away — only twelve minutes from campus.

To celebrate four years of hard work, they planned a full day of R&R: shopping at the mall, a spa treatment, a movie, and a night out dancing. At 1:31 a.m., they finally left the club.

As they stood on the corner waiting for the signal light to change, a horrifying scene unfolded right in front of them. A drunk driver ran a red light. The sound of the collision was loud. Three people were rushed to the ICU, fighting for their lives. The car that caused the crash fled the scene.

The head detective questioned Loretta and Rachel. His first question was, “Did you get a good look at the driver?”

They answered: “I just got a glimpse.”

The Sad reality

How true is that of God’s creation? Most people only ever get a glimpse of Jesus — not of His character, not of His heart, not of His presence.

They know His name, but they’ve never known Him. No intimacy. No encounter. No relationship.

Not because He hides… but because we choose the broad road and refuse the narrow one.

We’re talking about Jesus — the Son of God. The One with authority. The One with power. The One who holds eternity in His hands.

If we don’t fear the One with unlimited power…, why don’t we at least have reverence for His Holy Name?

Let me give you a reason. Meditate on this. Allow your heart to receive.

This is Jesus — The Seven “I AM” Statements:

When Moses asked God for His name, He answered, “I AM.” And when Jesus said, “Before Abraham was, I AM,” He wasn’t echoing the phrase — He was revealing the same divine identity.

Here are the seven “I AM” statements from the Gospel of John:

1. “I AM the Bread of Life.”

He alone satisfies the hunger of the human soul.

2. “I AM the Light of the World.”

He exposes darkness and guides us into truth.

3. “I AM the Door for the Sheep.”

He is the only entrance into salvation and safety.

4. “I AM the Good Shepherd.”

He protects, leads, and lays down His life for His people.

5. “I AM the Resurrection and the Life.”

He holds authority over death itself.

6. “I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life.”

Not a way — THE way. Not a truth — THE truth. Not a life — THE life.

7. “I AM the True Vine.”

He is the source of spiritual life, growth, and fruitfulness.

Mercy and God’s grace every morning–are not given so you can “just get a glimpse of Jesus.” They are given so you can gaze upon Him, open your heart, and be drawn into a real, intimate relationship — to receive Him as your Lord and Savior, the One who was resurrected, the One who calls you to take up your cross and let Him sit on the throne of your heart. Now that you know who He is, start living like it.
